There are two ways to join the eduroam roaming service. Funet-members, like universities, polytechnics and research insitutes, typically offer eduroam both for their own users and for visitors. In this case, a WLAN network as well as a RADIUS server that is connected to a suitable user database, is needed.
A more lightweight way is to join as a service provider, which means to provide an internet connection free of charge for eduroam users. This concept is used in cafeteria and libraries as well as among event organisers. Funet’s eduroam Proxy service can be utilised in order to avoid setting up and maintaining a RADIUS service.
